Greg Newbloom

CEO at Membrion

Greg Newbloom is the co-founder and CEO of Membrion, a cleantech company that spun out of the University of Washington with a proprietary material technology designed to make filtration membranes significantly more durable than traditional alternatives. Membranes are a foundational component in water treatment and purification, and Membrion's innovations have had meaningful impact across the wastewater industry. Under Greg's leadership, the company has grown from a university lab project to a commercial operation with roughly 40 to 50 employees and stable revenue.

On The Grove podcast by Earth Onward, Greg joined host to discuss the journey of building Membrion from its academic origins through the challenges of commercialization. The conversation explored why membrane technology matters for global water access, what makes Membrion's material approach distinct, and what it actually takes to move a deep tech innovation from research into a functioning, revenue-generating business. Greg brought a practical and candid perspective on entrepreneurship, sharing hard-won insight on scaling a science-based company in the water sector. It was a conversation well suited for anyone interested in water technology, cleantech entrepreneurship, or the realities of spinning a company out of a university research environment.
